Boston Bruins News

Rask is expected to start Saturday vs. the Canadiens.

Rask allowed five goals on 31 shots in the Bruins loss to the Jets on Thursday. It was certainly not an ideal start to the season for Rask and the Bruins and things don’t get any easier with the Canadiens in town this evening. Rask struggled mightily against the Canadiens last season, going 0-3-0 with a 3.29 GAA and .886 SV%.

Tuukka Rask
Rask will start the Bruins’ home opener against the Jets.

Rask started 70 games last season, winning 34 while posting a 2.30 GAA and .922 SV%. He is among fantasy hockey’s elite, but with Zdeno Chara out, the blueline in front of him is sketchy. Rask posted a 1.86 GAA and .923 SV% in two preseason games. Rask had great numbers against the Jets last year, going 1-1-0 with a1.48 GAA and .952 SV%.

Johnson (undisclosed) returned to practice on Tuesday.

Johnson has been banged up and missed Monday’s practice, but was back on the ice this morning. Johnson should be good to go when the Lightning open the season on Thursday. He will look to build off of a fantastic 2014-15 season.

The Devils have sent Pavel Zacha to Sarnia (OHL).

Zacha, 18, was the sixth overall pick in this summer’s draft, but was unable to crack the Devils opening night roster. Zacha heads back to the OHL, where he had 16 goals and 18 assists (34 points) in 37 games a season ago.

Johnson (undisclosed) is listed as day-to-day.

Johnson was injured in Saturday’s preseason finale. He played just two shifts in the second period before exiting the game with an undisclosed injury. Johnson’s injury is not considered serious and he could be ready for the season opener.

Stralman working on the Lightning’s top power-play unit.

In his first season in Tampa Bay, Stralman averaged 2:28 PP/TOI per game, which was way up from the 0:45 PP/TOI he averaged in three years with New York—the increased playing time resulted in 14 PPP (2G / 12A) after he had just four PPP in the previous three seasons. Stralman is once again working with the first PP-unit to start the 2015-16 season, so it looks like the Lightning plan to use him in the same way as last year. He had a career high 39 points (9G / 30A) a season ago.
