Carolina Hurricanes News

Kochetkov will start Tuesday vs. Vancouver.

Kochetkov has missed the last seven games with a concussion but will return to the crease on Tuesday against the Vancouver Canucks. The 24-year-old Kochetkov was playing tremendously in the games leading up to his injury, allowing two or fewer goals in four straight (4-0-0), posting a dazzling .936 SV%. The Hurricanes, riding a three-game winning streak, are -141 home favourites against the Vancouver Canucks, who lead the Pacific Division and have points in 11 straight (9-0-2).

Andersen has been medically cleared to resume on-ice activities.

Andersen was diagnosed with deep-vein thrombosis and subsequent pulmonary embolisms in November. Andersen has resumed off-ice activities without complication and will not begin limited on-ice conditioning. Andersen remains without a timetable to return to the lineup.

Frederik Andersen
Martin will start in Boston on Wednesday.

Martin will make his Hurricanes debut on Wednesday after being claimed off waivers from the Blue Jackets last week. Given Antti Raanta's struggles this season, Martin could make a case for some extra work in the absence of Pyotr Kochetkov (concussion), though he didn't look particularly strong during his time in Columbus this season. The 28-year-old netminder posted a 3-8-1 record along with an .887 SV% and a 3.65 GAA in 13 appearances with the Blue Jackets. He draws a brutal assignment in his first start as a Hurricane as he travels to Boston to take on the Bruins.

Necas (upper body) will return to the Hurricanes' lineup Friday vs. Detroit

Necas has been out since January 2nd due to an upper-body injury but will return to the Hurricanes' lineup Friday vs. Detroit. The 25-year-old broke out with a 71 point campaign in 2022-23 but has failed to take another step forward this season with just nine goals and 26 points in 38 games prior to the injury.

Kochetkov (concussion) has been placed on the Injured Reserve.

The Hurricanes claimed Spencer Martin off of waivers from the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday, allowing the Hurricanes to ease Kochetkov slow back into the lineup as he recovers from a concussion. Kochetkov has skated at practice the last couple of days, indicating that his return to the lineup is on the horizon despite being placed on the injured reserve.

Carolina has claimed Spencer Martin off waivers from the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Martin will add some depth to an uncertain Hurricanes crease after being claimed off waivers from the Blue Jackets. Pyotr Kochetkov (concussion) and Frederik Andersen (blood clot) are both currently sidelined for the Hurricanes, though Kochetkov's return to the lineup seems imminent. Martin last played on January 2nd, allowing four goals on 27 shots (.852 SV%) in a 4-1 loss to the Boston Bruins, a fair representation of his seasonal 3.65 GAA and .887 SV%.
