New Jersey Devils News

Bernier will likely start Tuesday vs. the Islanders.

Bernier allowed two goals on 29 shots in the Ducks win vs. the Devils last Thursday. Bernier has played well so far this season, posting a 2.06 GAA and .933 SV% in seven games and if he keeps this up his starts may become more frequent. Tonight he takes on an Islanders team that has lost four straight games.

Markstrom will start Saturday vs. the Blackhawks.

Markstrom allowed two goals on 36 shots in the Canucks win over the Coyotes on Thursday. Markstrom has gone 2-2-0 with a 3.17 GAA and .883 SV% in four games in November. Despite a winning record on home-ice this season (4-2-0), Markstrom is giving up nearly 3.00 goals per game at Rogers Arena and is a risky start vs. Chicago.

Bernier leads the Ducks onto the ice for warmups.

Bernier allowed one goal on nine shots after replacing John Gibson in the Ducks’ loss in Nashville on Saturday. Bernier has posted a 2.08 GAA and .934 SV% in six appearances this season. Tonight he makes for a safe spot-start against a Devils team that doesn’t score a lot of goals and will be even more hard-pressed without Taylor Hall and Mike Cammalleri in the lineup.

Markstrom will start Thursday vs. the Coyotes.

Markstrom allowed seven(!!!) goals on 25 shots in the Canucks’ loss to the Rangers on Tuesday. Despite a dreadful performance, Markstrom will start again on Thursday because Ryan Miller is sick. Markstrom should have an easier night against a Coyotes team that has lost four of five and played last night.

After winning his first three starts, Markstrom has dropped his last three games (0-2-1) while posting a 2.63 GAA and .910 SV%. Markstrom will start Thursday in Ottawa.

Markstrom allowed four goals on 34 shots in the Canucks’ loss to the Capitals on Saturday. Ryan Miller started last night, so Markstrom will go tonight in Ottawa. Markstrom has had a strong start to the year as the Canucks’ backup, but won’t get much in the way of goal support. Markstrom comes in with a 2.35 GAA and .913 SV%, but is a risky start on any given night.

Jacob Markstrom
Bernier (upper-body) is available for Wednesday’s game; no word on if he will start.

Bernier has missed the last three games with an upper-body injury that he suffered on October 25th. Bernier will be available to start tonight, but head coach Randy Carlyle would not commit to his starting goalie. John Gibson posted a shutout last night, so they’ll probably see how he is feeling before they decide.
