Ryan Poehling will be a game-time decision Friday vs. New Jersey (upper body).

Poehling missed the Penguins' previous two games due to an upper-body injury and headed to the injured reserve Wednesday but will be a game-time decision as the Penguins take on the Devils. The 23-year-old has four goals, four assists, 34 SOG and a +3 plus/minus through 30 games this season prior to the injury.

Ersson will start Thursday in San Jose.

Ersson was shelled for five goals on 30 shots (.833 SV%) in the only start of his career, a loss to Carolina his last time out. The 23-year-old will be hoping for better fortunes in his second start of the year as he replaces Carter Hart (concussion) for the time being. He will be looking to pick up his first career win as he takes on the San Jose Sharks, who have lost four of their last five games after a 6-2 loss to Vancouver in their last game.

Poehling has been enjoying a solid first season in Pittsburgh, with four goals, four assists, 34 SOG and a +3 plus/minus through 30 games before the injury.

Samuel Ersson has been recalled from Lehigh Valley (AHL).

Ersson has a 9-8-1 record, .910 SV% and 2.70 GAA with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (AHL) but has been recalled Wednesday as it was announced Felix Sandstrom will miss the upcoming road trip due to illness. He will likely make his NHL debut either Thursday or Friday as Philadelphia has a back-to-back situation.

Eetu Makiniemi will make his first career start Friday vs. Anaheim.

Makiniemi allowed two goals on eight shots (.750 SV%) in relief hockey in his first career NHL appearance last game vs. the Vancouver Canucks. He will get the first start of his career Friday after posting a 6-4-2 record and .918 SV% with the San Jose Barracuda (AHL). He draws a good first matchup with the Anaheim Ducks, who are 30th in the NHL in goals for per game (2.48) and 21st in shots (30.2).
