The Jets placed Vilardi on Injured Reserve.

Jets' newcomer Vilardi will miss approximately four to six weeks after suffering an injury (sprained MCL) in Tuesday's matchup against the Los Angeles Kings. In three games this season, Vilardi was seeing time on the top line and top powerplay unit, recording one assist and nine shots on goal. The loss is a sizeable one for the Jets, who will likely turn to Mason Appleton and Alex Iafallo for an increase in playing time.

Luke Schenn (lower body) is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

Schenn's status has been up in the air after sitting out the last three games but is now been confirmed to miss the next four to six weeks with a lower-body injury. He recorded one block and four hits in 15:11 time-on-ice in his only game this season. Last season, Schenn had a league-leading 318 hits along with 22 points (4G / 18A) in 70 games. Dante Fabbro has, and will likely continue, to fill in on the back end in his absence.

Vilardi (lower-body) will not return to Tuesday's game against the Kings.

Vilardi suffered what the Jets are calling a lower-body injury after falling awkwardly following a hit from the Kings Blake Lizotte. Vilardi scored 23 goals and added 18 assists in 63 games with the Kings last season before heading to Winnipeg as part of the trade that sent Pierre-Luc Dubois to Los Angeles. The 24-year-old Vilardi had impressed in his first two games as a Jet, registering one assist and nine shots on goal.

Brandon Tanev (lower body) is expected to miss four-to-six weeks.

Tanev is expected to miss four-to-six weeks after suffering a lower-body injury in the Kraken's season opener against the Vegas Golden Knights. Tanev is coming off a season where he played a full 82-game slate after only playing 62 games combined in his two seasons prior. Tye Kartye replaced Tanev in their most recent game and will likely remain in the lineup until he is fit to return.

Connor Hellebuyck will start Tuesday vs. Los Angeles.

Hellebuyck will tend the crease for the third consecutive game to open the season for the Jets. After signing a massive contract extension before the start of the season, Hellebuyck has struggled out of the starting block. In his two games so far (1-1-0), Hellebuyck has a very uncharacteristic 4.07 GAA and .852 SV%. He will look to get things back in order tonight as the Jets are -130 home favourites against a Los Angeles Kings team that is still searching for their first win of the season (0-1-1).

Connor Hellebuyck
Hellebuyck led the Jets onto the ice for warmups.

Hellebuyck allowed four goals on 21 shots in the Jets' loss in Winnipeg on opening night. It was a tough start to the season for the workhorse netminder, but he should be relied upon whenever he gets the nod. This afternoon he'll face a Panthers team that was shutout in their first game and come in without Aaron Ekblad, Brandon Montour and Sam Bennett.

Jaret Anderson-Dolan has been recalled from Ontario (AHL).

Anderson-Dolan was waived by Los Angeles last Sunday but has been recalled from Ontario (AHL) ahead of the Kings' game Saturday vs. Carolina and is expected to appear on the fourth line. The 24-year-old centre had seven goals, five assists, 54 SOG, two PIMs and a -11 plus/minus in 46 games with Los Angeles in 2022-23.

Schenn will not play in Thursday's game against the Kraken due to a lower-body injury.

Schenn presumably picked up the injury at some point during Tuesday night's opening affair with the Lightning, though there was no mention or report of an injury prior to warmups for Thursday's game against the Blues. The 33-year-old blue-liner rarely contributes offensively, but his absence will be felt in fantasy formats that reward blocked shots and hits. Dante Fabbro will slide into the lineup in place of Schenn.

Brandon Tanev (upper body) is not available for Seattle ahead of their game vs. Nashville.

Tanev was the recipricantt of a high Brett Howden crosscheck which resulted in a two-game suspension and caused the grinding winger to leave after only 10:07 TOI and will now be out for Seattle's game Thursday vs. Nashville. The 31-year-old's absence creates a glaring hole in the Krakens lineup as Tanev had 16 goals, 35 points and a +21 in 82 games played in 2022-23. Rookie Ty Kartye will be making his NHL debut in place of Tanev.

Brandon Tanev
Tanev left Tuesday's game with an upper-body injury and is questionable to play Thursday.

Tanev left Tuesday's loss in Vegas after a hit to the head from Brett Howden. The Golden Knights' forward was suspended two games for the hit. Tanev did not return to the game, and the Kraken did not provide an update on his status, so consider him questionable for Thursday's game in Nashville. Tye Kartye would likely replace Tanev if he can't play.

Hellebuyck will start Wednesday's game in Calgary.

Hellebuyck is fresh off signing a huge seven-year contract extension worth a whopping $59.5 million and seems likely to get the start in the Jets' season-opener against the Flames. Hellebuyck has had one of the heaviest workloads amongst NHL goaltenders over the last half-decade and will likely continue with that trajectory this season. In 64 games last season (37-25-2), he posted a 2.49 GAA and a .920 SV% along with four shutouts. The Jets are +116 road underdogs against a Flames team that is looking to improve on their 19th-ranked offence from last season (3.15 goals/GM). Last season, Hellebuyck had a losing record against the Flames (1-2-0) despite posting an impressive 2.71 GAA and .924 SV% in those games.

Phillips was poised to make the Blackhawks for opening night but has been assigned to the Rockford IceHogs (AHL) for the start of the 2023-24 campaign. The 22-year-old was Chicago's 2020 fifth-round pick (141st overall) and had a goal, four assists, five PIMs, and a -10 plus/minus in a short 16-game showing in 2022-23.
