NHL Hockey Player News

Elliott will start Thursday in Ottawa.

Elliott allowed four goals on 28 shots in the Flames’ loss in Toronto on Monday. Chad Johnson lost again on Tuesday, so they’ll go back to Elliott tonight in Ottawa. The Flames are sliding big time and Elliott comes in having allowed eight goals on 81 shots (.901 SV%) in his last three starts.

Brian Elliott
Hornqvist (lower-body) will be a game-time decision on Thursday.

The Penguins called Hornqvist day-to-day on Wednesday, but he was on the ice for an optional morning skate and is now a game-time decision for tonight’s game. The Penguins could elect to hold him out and get him some rest over the All-Star break and if he sits, Carter Rowney will make his NHL debut.

Patric Hornqvist
Vasilevskiy will start Thursday in Florida.

Vasilevskiy allowed two goals on 36 shots in the Lightning’s win in Chicago on Tuesday. It was a great game for the young netminder, who was in need of a confidence boost. He will be rewarded with another game tonight in Florida. The 22-year-old is 4-7-0 with a 3.01 GAA and .908 SV% on the road this season.

Andrei Vasilevskiy
Murray will start Thursday in Boston.

Murray allowed three goals on 28 shots in the Penguins loss to the Blues on Tuesday. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for Murray, who will make his sixth consecutive start in net tonight. Murray is 2-0-0 with a 1.98 GAA and .955 SV% in two starts vs. the Bruins this season.

Matt Murray
Wingels will make his Senators debut on Thursday.

Wingels was acquired in a trade with the Sharks and is set to make his Ottawa debut tonight vs. the Flames. The 28-year-old has eight points (5G / 3A) in 37 games this season and 122 points (51G / 71A) in 337 career games with the Sharks. He will replace Chris Neil and skate with Curtis Lazar and Chris Kelly.

Tommy Wingels
Niemi was the first goalie off of the ice at the morning skate.

Niemi allowed six goals on 28 shots in the Stars win in New York on December 17th. You don’t see a goalie give up six goals and win very often, but it’s exactly what Niemi did to earn his 10th win of the season. Of those 10 wins, eight of them have come on home-ice, where the 33-year-old has posted a 2.36 GAA and .925 SV%.

Antti Niemi
Ward will start Thursday vs. the Kings.

Ward allowed six goals on 25 shots in the Hurricanes loss in Washington on Monday. Ward has three in a row while allowing a ridiculous 17 goals on 85 shots (.800 SV%). It’s been a rough stretch for Ward, who has been solid through 40 starts this season. He won his first start vs. the Kings by stopping 21 of 22 shots back in December.

Cam Ward
Hoffman (illness) is expected to draw back into the Senators' lineup on Thursday.

Hoffman missed Tuesday’s game vs. the Capitals with an illness, but is expected to play vs. the Flames tonight. Hoffman is tied for the team lead with 17 goals and his 34 points is good for third, behind only Erik Karlssson and Mark Stone.

Mike Hoffman
Dubnyk will start Thursday vs. the Blues.

Dubnyk allowed two goals on 37 shots in the Wild’s win in Dallas on Tuesday. Dubnyk extended his winning streak to three games and now sits alone in second with 26 wins. Dubnyk has been great all season-long and tonight he faces the Blues for the fourth time—he is 1-1-1 with a 2.30 GAA and .924 SV% in the first three.
