The Vegas Golden Knights backed up the truck for its No. 1 goaltender, locking him down for the future.

On Friday, the team announced it had signed goaltender Adin Hill to a six-year contract extension. The deal, set to kick in next season, carries an AAV of $6.25 million through the 2030-31 campaign.

It’s certainly a big chunk of change for a netminder who was a key part of the team’s run to the Stanley Cup two years ago. However, since then, Hill has been good, but not great. So far this season, Hill has a record of 24-11-4 with a 2.53 goals-against average, a .906 save percentage and four shutouts. Yet, the cap hit is higher than his former goalie partner and current Washington Capitals backstop, Logan Thompson, who will be making $5.85 million a year starting next season.

During the Blue Paint segment of Friday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton gives his thoughts on Hill’s new deal.

Carter Hutton: I think it’s pretty good. Honestly, I think it’s pretty good for Vegas, right? I think you’re kind of hedging your bet here if you’re Vegas, because if he goes on another playoff run and wins another Cup, or they go really deep in the playoffs, I think the price only goes up. For a guy like Aiden Hill, who wasn’t really marked to be a stud, you know, he’s kind of come into his own, and I think he’s fallen into a good place in Vegas where they defend very well. .909 [save percentage] over 175 games now, which is really good numbers…

I think it’s skewed a bit because Vegas is so good defensively. Look at that playoff run. His numbers in the playoffs have been very good. But I think this is a hedge your bet here. I think time will tell if there’s some shrapnel from all these signings that Vegas has had over the last few years. In year three, four of this deal, can he still put up those good numbers?
