Bemstrom could draw into the Penguins lineup on Friday with Rutger McGroarty getting injured on Tuesday.

Bemstrom played 13 games with Pittsburgh this season but has been re-assigned to the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins (AHL)., where he has spent most of the 2024-25 campaign. The 25-year-old forward has 46 points (21G / 25A) in 43 AHL games this season.

Bemstrom will slot back into Pittsburgh's lineup when they travel to Tampa Bay on Tuesday. He was a late addition to the lineup, replacing Evgeni Malkin (upper-body).

Bemstrom will be the odd-man out up-front for the Penguins when they host the Islanders on Tuesday. Joona Koppanen will make his season debut in place of Bemstrom.

Bemstrom will return to Pittsburgh after a successful first-half season with the Penguins and has signed a one-year extension worth $775,000. The 25-year-old was acquired in a trade from Columbus early on in 2023-24 and had eight goals, 16 points and 12 PIMs in 56 games played between Columbus and Pittsburgh.

Bemstrom scored a goal in Monday's 4-2 win over the Nashville Predators, snapping a six-game pointless skid, but will draw out of the lineup for the Penguins' final game of the season. Bemstrom ends the 2023-24 campaign with 16 points (8G / 8A) in 56 games split between the Penguins and Columbus Blue Jackets.

Bemstrom will make his first appearance since March 24th when the Penguins travel to New York on Monday. Samuel Poulin will sit in his place.

Bemstrom will take a seat on Tuesday as Samuel Poulin and Jonathan Gruden draw into the Penguins' lineup. It's unclear if Bemstrom is dealing with an undisclosed injury or if he is simply a healthy scratch for Tuesday's game.


A fourth-round pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, Bemstrom scored 31 goals and 38 assists in 204 games across parts of five seasons in Columbus, playing predominantly in the team's bottom-six. It's unclear where the Penguins plan to deploy the 24-year-old Swede in their lineup.

Mathieu Olivier will draw into the lineup on Tuesday in favour of Bemstrom, who will be a healthy scratch. Bemstrom played only 6:26 time-on-ice in his last outing, recording a -1 plus/minus, one shot, and two hits.

Bemstrom has been a healthy scratch the last two games for the Blue Jackets but will re-enter the lineup on Tuesday against the Ottawa Senators. Bemstrom has had trouble producing offensively lately, being limited to only one point (1G / 0A) in his last eight games.

Bemstrom did not record a point in 12:23 TOI in Seattle on Sunday, and will be a healthy scratch for the fifth time in six games on Tuesday. Mathieu Olivier will draw back into the lineup to replace him in the Blue Jackets' bottom-6.
