Henrik Tallinder News

The Rangers have signed Henrik Tallinder to a professional tryout.

The Rangers released veteran defenseman Tomas Kaberle after a two-game look in Hartford, but another veteran free-agent blueliner, Henrik Tallinder, is in the AHL for an assessment. Tallinder, 35, who suffered a shoulder injury during training camp with the Maple Leafs, signed a professional tryout contract and is expected to practice with the Wolfpack this week, the team confirmed.

Tallinder will be back in the Sabres lineup tonight.

Tallinder was given the night off on Tuesday, but will play tonight and will likely replace John Scott on the blueline. Tallinder has two goals and five assists to go with a minus-15 rating this season. He is a potential deadline target for teams in need of blueline depth.

The news that Devils defenseman Henrik Tallinder has a blood clot in his lower left leg and will miss six to eight weeks came as a surprise to the entire team.

Tallinder was a late scratch and will be out until March at the very earliest. The Stockholm, Sweden native has six assists over 39 games. Rookie Matt Taormina will replace him in the lineup.
