Martin Brodeur News

Devils G Martin Brodeur confirms he is starting tonight vs. Toronto. He has been out since Oct. 13 with a right shoulder injury

Brodeur's two start this year have been less than stellar, and this will be his first live action in about 3 weeks. Might be a safe bet to keep him on your bench until you know he's shaken the rust off.

“I told Chris if they need me tomorrow, I’ll be OK to play,” Brodeur said. “So, we’ll see what they decide.”

Sounds like Marty will be a decision made tomorrow. He is certainly healthy enough to backup but coach Pete DeBoer has played his cards close to the vest.

That’s a good sign for Brodeur, who apparently is ready to return from a bruised right shoulder that’s kept him out since Oct. 13.

Brodeur is likely to start this week and certainly healthy enough to backup. However, as we noted yesterday, he may never be back at full strength.

After Brodeur had the MRI on his shoulder, he said the test showed, “nothing new that I didn’t have before.” He has also said he had an MRI on that shoulder at some point earlier in his career.

In what should be the final season in a storied career, Brodeur will never be back to 100 percent. Expect him to get back in the crease at some point this week but play well below his potential.

Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur will miss his sixth game in a row tonight in Dallas because of a bruised right shoulder, but appears to be on the verge of being ready to return to the lineup.

At this rate it sounds like Brodeur will lace them up some time next week in, at the very least, a backup capacity. Check the starting goalies section to see when he will get into games.

It was the first practice for Brodeur with the entire team since he was hurt on Oct. 13. He shared one net with Keith Kinkaid while Johan Hedberg manned the other goal.

Sharing the net with Kinkaid indicates he won't be the starting goalie tomorrow but it is a welcome sign for the ageing Hall-of-Famer. Stay tuned for more updates on Brodeur as he continues to approach a comeback date.

Brodeur was on the ice to face shots at the end of the morning skate. First, it was the team's defensemen who took shots. Ilya Kovalchuk, David Clarkson and a couple other forwards joined in.

Brodeur took shots which is a decent indicator he will recover shortly. However, he is not scheduled to make a start this road trip.
