Thatcher Demko News
Demko was dinged up in warmups on Tuesday and will miss at least 10 days with a minor sprain. Look for the Canucks to continue to lean on Jacob Markstrom while Demko is sidelined.
Demko, who likely would have been in-line to start Tuesday’s game, tweaked something in warmups on Monday and will not be available for Tuesday’s contest. Mikey DiPietro will join the Canucks in Washington to serve as Jacob Markstrom’s backup.
Demko will be making his season debut after serving as Jacob Markstrom’s backup for a couple of weeks. Demko is one of the top goaltending prospects in the NHL and went 8-5-0 with a 2.58 GAA and .911 SV% in 16 games before being promoted to the NHL. He allowed four goals on 30 shots in a 5-4 OT win vs. the Blue Jackets in his NHL debut last year.

The Canucks traded Anders Nilsson to the Senators for Mike McKenna and waived McKenna with the purpose of sending him to the AHL to replace Demko when they called him up. Despite losing McKenna on waivers to Philadelphia, Demko still comes up as the Canucks’ No.2 netminder. The 2014 second-round pick has gone 8-5-0 wit a 2.58 GAA and .911 SV% in 16 games with the Comets this season.
Demko, 22, is the Canucks goalie of the future and comes up to get a taste of the NHL after a good year in Utica (AHL). Demko, who was the No.36 overall pick in 2014, went 23-12-4 with a 2.49 GAA and .921 SV% in 42 games with the Comets, but draws a stiff test in his NHL debut.

Demko has appeared in seven games with Utica this season and has gone 4-2-0 with a 1.85 GAA and .939 SV%. There’s no word on why Demko has been recalled, but he could serve as the backup tonight if one of the Canucks goalies are ailing.
