Varlamov has been outstanding in limited action this season and will return to the crease for his third start as the Islanders take on the Washington Capitals. In two games this season (1-1-0), Varlamov has an outrageous 1.51 GAA and .961 SV% including one shutout and has been historically great against the Capitals in his career, boasting a 2.62 GAA and .918 SV% in 21 games (7-11-3). Talbot will start in Ottawa on Thursday. Talbot has been the only reliable netminder for the Kings this season and as such, appears to be the starter on Thursday against the Ottawa Senators. In seven games (4-2-1), Talbot has a respectable 2.47 GAA and .914 SV% but has been even more impressive of late, allowing only five goals (.936 SV%) in his last three contests (2-0-1). After allowing five goals on 42 shots in a 6-5 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Canadiens season-opener, Allen has settled into an impressive run, winning three straight games and posting a 2.63 GAA and .930 SV% on the season (3-0-1). FIlip Gustavsson will start Thursday vs. New Jersey. Gustavsson will return to the crease on Thursday after serving as the Wild backup in their last two games. After a sensational 41-save shutout in his season debut, Gustavsson has struggled immensely with a 5.45 GAA and .853 SV% in four games (1-2-1). Gustavsson was one of the league's top goaltenders last season and still has plenty of time to turn things around but Thursday night's matchup against the high-octane New Jersey Devils doesn't inspire much confidence. Skinner seems to have taken a grasp on the Oilers' starting role as he is set to start his third-straight game for Edmonton Thursday as they take on Dallas. The 25-year-old was an All-Star in his rookie season in 2022-23, but has struggled thus far this season as he is 1-2-1 with a .863 SV% and 3.51 GAA. Wedgewood will start in Edmonton on Thursday. Jake Oettinger will get the night off on Thursday after the Stars starter stopped 43 of 46 shots in last night's 4-3 victory over the Flames. Wedgewood will be hoping to regain some of the form he flashed last season when he posted a .915 SV% across 21 appearances .Thursday night's game in Edmonton will mark Wedgewood's third start of the season.
