Hillis was a third-round pick in 2018 who has appeared in just one NHL game for the Canadiens. He's started the 2023 season in the ECHL, where he had two goals in three games with Trois-Rivieres Lions. Hillis will report to Rockford (AHL).

Vlasic was hurt while blocking a shot in practice last week and will miss the season opener but is "feeling much better," according to head coach Luke Richardson. Filip Roos will make his NHL debut in Vlasic's place.
