Washington Capitals News

Charlie Lindgren will start Saturday vs. Columbus.

Lindgren will play for just the second time this season after allowing four goals on 35 shots in the Capitals season-opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Capitals are coming off a 3-0 shutout loss at the hands of the New York Islanders on Thursday but have been playing much better of late, winning their three games prior. Lindgren and the Capitals will be facing a Columbus Blue Jackets team that has lost four of their last five (1-2-2) but is coming off an impressive 4-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Timothy Liljegren (lower body) "looks like he'll miss significant time" according to Sheldon Keefe.

Liljegren played only 4:49 before falling awkwardly into the boards after getting tangled up with Bruins' forward Brad Marchand. Liljegren left the game with a lower-body injury and the early update from Sheldon Keefe did not sound promising as he will likely "miss significant time." In 10 games this season, Liljegren has one point (0G / 1A), 18 blocks, and six hits.

Thompson will start Thursday against the Jets.

Thompson will look to continue his undefeated season (4-0-0) as he appears to be the starter for the Golden Knights on Thursday night. Adin Hill has had the slight favour in net, starting 60% of the teams' 10 games thus far but Thompson continues to be a reliable option when called upon and should continue to see a near-split workload the rest of the way. In his most recent contest, Thompson saved 36 of 39 shots in a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Kings. Thompson and the Golden Knights are -130 home favourites against the Winnipeg Jet, who are 4-3-2 on the season.

Alex Tuch (undisclosed) missed practice Wednesday due to maintenance.

Tuch did not participate in the Sabres' skate Thursday after missing practice due to maintenance and is a game-time decision Friday vs. Philadelphia after Lukas Rousek was recalled from Rochester (AHL). The 27-year-old right-winger has a goal, six assists, 20 SOG, 18 PIMs and a +1 plus/minus through 10 games this season.

Timothy Liljegren (upper body) will play on Tuesday vs. Los Angeles.

Liljegren left the Maple Leafs' previous game Saturday after just 11:45 TOI due to an upper-body injury but will play Tuesday vs. Los Angeles. The 24-year-old defenseman has taken a positive stride forward in 2023-24 as he's averaging nearly a minute and a half more than his previous career-high TOI with his 19:12 TOI nightly and has an assist, and five SOG in eight games this season.

Justin Holl will be a healthy scratch on Monday vs. the New York Islanders.

Holl currently sits tied for 10th in the NHL with his +7 plus/minus but is the odd man out of the Red Wings lineup Monday as they take on the New York Rangers. The 31-year-old defenseman was signed to a three-year, $10.2 million contract in the off-season and has three assists, one SOG, 10 PIMs, and a +7 plus/minus in eight games so far in 2023-24.

Charlie Lindgren (upper-body) is ready to return to the Capitals' roster.

Lindgren was unable to dress for the Capitals' last six games because of an upper-body injury but is expected to return to backup duties on Sunday against the San Jose Sharks. In his only game this season, the Capitals season-opener, Lindgren allowed four goals on 35 shots in an eventual 4-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Sandin (undisclosed) is on the ice for warmups and is expected to play in Friday's game against the Wild.

Sandin was a game-time decision for Friday's game against the Wild after exiting the Washington's Wednesday night matchup against the New Jersey Devils in the third period with an undisclosed injury. The Swedish defenseman has been held without a point in his first six games and has a -4 rating.

Rasmus Sandin
Louis Belpedio is expected to make his Flyers' debut on Thursday vs. Minnesota.

Belpedio has two points (0G / 2A) in four career NHL games but has not played at the NHL level since the 2020-21 season with the Minnesota Wild. He is expected to make his Flyers' debut on Thursday, likely suiting up alongside Nick Seeler on their third defensive pair.

Louie Belpedio
Thompson will start against the Flyers on Tuesday.

Thompson will get his third start this season as the Vegas Golden Knights look to continue their season-opening six-game winning streak. In two games (2-0-0), Thompson has posted a 2.00 GAA and .935 SV% behind a Golden Knights defence that currently ranks fourth-best in the league (1.83 GA/GP). The Golden Knights are -198 home favourites against a Philadelphia Flyers team that has outscored opponents 16-13 early this season (3-1-1).
