The Avalanche have recalled Reto Berra from Lake Erie (AHL).

Berra was with Lake Erie on a conditioning stint, where he went 3-1-1 with a 2.57 GAA and .914 SV% in five games. He will serve as Semyon Varlamov’s backup—he is 2-2-1 with a 3.57 GAA and .882 SV% with the Avalanche this season.

The Wild have sent Darcy Kuemper to Iowa (AHL) on a conditioning stint.

Kuemper missed seven games with a lower-body injury, but returned in a relief role in Minnesota’s final game before the All Star break. Kuemper will play a few games with Iowa, before returning to the Wild, where he will split time with Devan Dubnyk and Niklas Backstrom.

Phaneuf is week-to-week with a hand injury.

Phaneuf suffered an apparent hand injury in the Maple Leafs final game before the All Star break in Ottawa. Reports are that Phaneuf aggravated a hand injury in a fight with Eric Staal on Monday and then made it worse while fighting Milan Michalek on Wednesday. With Phaneuf out, the Maple Leafs recalled Petter Granberg.

Johnson will be out for 3-8 weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on Monday.

Johnson rarely had been participating in practice recently and it was apparent he was was banged up. Monday's announcement filled in the blanks. He will be out until at least the middle of February, but could be out until mid-March.

Letang (head) is expected to play on Tuesday vs. Winnipeg.

Letang missed last Wednesday’s game with a head injury that he suffered on Tuesday vs. the Flyers. He was back at practice on Monday and said he thinks he will be back in the lineup tomorrow after practice went “really well” today.

The Penguins have placed Evgeni Malkin (lower-body) on IR.

Malkin is not expected to skate over the next few days, so he is expected to miss at least the next two games. The Penguins said they won’t have too much information on Malkin’s injury until he starts skating, but when that will happen remains unclear at this point.

Johnson (lower-body) practiced on Monday after missing the All Star game.

Johnson was a full participant in practice on Monday despite missing the All Star game this weekend with a lower-body injury. His availability this afternoon is a good sign that Johnson will play tomorrow vs. the Hurricanes.

The Maple Leafs recalled Petter Granberg from Toronto (AHL).

Granberg, 22, is a 6-foot-3, 200 lbs. blue liner who has seven points (1G / 6A) in 28 games with the Marlies this season. He was held off of the scoresheet in his only NHL game with the Leafs last season.

The Flames have recalled David Wolf from Adirondack (AHL).

Wolf, 25, is a 6-foot-2, 216 lbs. forward who is in his first season in North American. The German winger has scored 12 goals and nine assists (21 points) in 35 games with Adirondack this season. He could make his NHL debut on Tuesday vs. Buffalo.

The Canucks have placed Kevin Bieksa (hand) on IR; he is expected to miss 6-8 weeks.

Bieksa underwent surgery on his hand and his expected timeline is 6-8 weeks. With Bieksa out, Frank Corrado is expected to continue to get a chance with the big club.

The Blue Jackets have recalled Anton Forsberg from Springfield (AHL).

Forsberg, 22, has been recalled because Sergei Bobrovsky will be sidelined for at least one month with a groin injury. Forsberg has gone 18-7-1 with a 2.04 GAA and .927 SV% in 27 games with Springfield this season. He could get a chance to become the Blue Jackets starter with Goalie Bob out.

The Blue Jackets have placed Sergei Bobrovsky (groin) on IR; expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

Bobrovsky was injured in the Blue Jackets final game before the All Star break and will miss at least one month with a groin injury. He has already missed time this season with a fractured finger and this latest injury is added to a growing list of injuries in Columbus this season.

The Kings have placed Mike Richards on waivers.

Richards, 29, has fallen a long way since being drafted 24th overall in 2003. He has a career-high of 80 points in 2008-09, but has registered just five goals and 10 assists (15 points) in 47 games this season. The Kings have reportedly tried trading Richards as of late, but the last trade fell through last night. If someone elects to claim him, he comes with a $5.75 million US cap-hit.
