NHL Hockey Player News

Hanzal (upper-body) will be in the lineup on Thursday vs. Calgary.

Hanzal has missed the last four games with an upper-body injury, but will return tomorrow vs. the Flames. He had a four-point effort on January 3rd, prior to leaving the game with an upper-body injury, so hopefully he can pick up where he left off. He will likely centre Sam Gagner and Mikkel Boedker.

Martin Hanzal
Doan (undisclosed) is doubtful to play on Thursday vs. the Flames.

Doan played just 13:31 compared to his 18:30 TOI AVG, so he must have suffered an injury in the late stages of Tuesday’s game vs. San Jose. With Doan likely to come out of the lineup, Martin Hanzal is expected to return.

Shane Doan
Miller (illness) is feeling better and he is hopeful he will play on Thursday.

Miller has missed the last two games with an illness, but he said after practice today that he is feeling better and hopes to start on Thursday vs. the Flyers. Monitor his status during the morning skate.

Ryan Miller
Andersen starts in goal vs. Toronto.

Andersen gave up four goals on 32 shots in the Ducks 5-4 shootout win over Winnipeg on Sunday. Despite allowing a combined 10 goals in his last three starts, he has walked away victorious in all three contests. Tonight he will face the Maple Leafs, he was pulled after allowing four goals on 20 shots in a 6-2 loss in Toronto in mid-December.

Frederik Andersen
Komarov (upper-body) is not expected to play on Wednesday.

Komarov, who left Monday’s game with an upper-body injury and did not return, is not on the ice for the Maple Leafs morning skate, which suggests he will not play tonight vs. the Ducks. With Komarov out, Sam Carrick is expected to draw back in.

Leo Komarov
Bernier will start vs. Anaheim.

Bernier allowed one goal on 19 shots in the Maple Leafs 2-0 loss to the Kings on Monday. Bernier has started 2015 with a 1-3-0 record, 2.79 GAA and .882 SV%. He will look to record his 17th win of the season tonight, in his second start of the year vs. the Ducks—he stopped 40 shots in a 6-2 win in their first meeting.

Jonathan Bernier
Fleury gets the nod on Friday on Long Island.

Fleury made 30 saves on 32 shots in the Penguins 7-2 victory over the Wild on Tuesday. He has won his last two games while stopped 57 of 60 shots (.950 SV%). Tonight he will take on the Islanders for the second time this season, he is 1-0-1 with a 2.40 GAA and .929 SV% in the first two meetings.

Marc-Andre Fleury
Talbot starts Thursday in Boston.

Talbot stopped all 12 shots that he faced after replacing Henrik Lundqvist in the Rangers 3-0 loss to the Islanders on Tuesday. Talbot has stopped 58 of the last 61 shots (.951 SV%) that he has faced entering play on Thursday. He will take on a Bruins team who have won four in a row while outscoring their opponent 13-6.

Cam Talbot
Jones was the first goalie off for the Kings.

Jones stopped all 19 shots that he faced in Monday’s 2-0 shutout win over the Maple Leafs. Jones has four wins on the year, three of them have come via the shutout. He has an incredible seven shutouts in just 26 starts and makes for an excellent spot-start tonight with the Devils in town.

Martin Jones
Ramo (upper-body) will travel on the Flames four-game road-trip; won’t play Thursday.

Ramo did not practice on Wednesday and will miss his second straight game with an upper-body injury, but will accompany the team on their four-game trip and could play before the All-Star break. Joni Ortio will start with Jonas Hiller as his back-up tomorrow night.

Karri Ramo
Ortio will make his second straight start on Thursday.

In his first NHL start of the season, Ortio stopped all 36 shots that he faced in the Flames 1-0 shutout win over the Canucks on Saturday. The shutout earned Ortio another start tonight vs. the visiting Coyotes. He should make for a strong spot-start, especially in win-only leagues—The Coyotes have lost four of six while being outscored 24-13.

Joni Ortio
Andersen was the first goalie off the ice for the Ducks.

Andersen gave up four goals on 32 shots in the Ducks 5-4 shootout win over Winnipeg on Sunday. Despite allowing a combined 10 goals in his last three starts, he has walked away victorious in all three contests. Tonight it looks like he will face the Maple Leafs; he was pulled after allowing four goals on 20 shots in a 6-2 loss in Toronto in mid-December.

Frederik Andersen
Miller was promoted to the Rangers second line on Wednesday.

With Derek Stepan sidelined with an upper-body injury, Miller skated between Chris Kreider and Martin St. Louis in Wednesday’s practice. Miller played well while Derick Brassard was out, so the move back into the top-6 should spark Miller’s production. He has four assists in his last five games.

J.T. Miller
Stepan (upper-body) missed practice on Wednesday.

Stepan was injured in last night’s game and then missed practice this morning which doesn’t bode well for him being in the lineup tomorrow vs. Boston. With Stepan out, J.T Miller was centring the second line and Mats Zuccarello moved to the first power-play.

Derek Stepan
Enroth gets the crease for the Sabres on Thursday.

Enroth allowed five goals on 31 shots in the Sabres loss to the Hurricanes last Thursday. He has lost five in a row while allowing a combined 19 goals on 148 shots (.872 SV%). His recent struggles led to Michal Neuvirth starting the last two games, but Enroth will be back in goal tonight vs. a Wild team who have lost six consecutive games.
