Tarasov will surprisingly take the crease in the Blue Jackets' opener after it was announced that expected starter Elvis Merzlikins would miss Wednesday night's game due to Illness. The 23-year-old Russian netminder enjoyed a successful short stint with the Jackets' in 2021-22, getting his first taste of NHL action across a late-season four-game stint where he produced an impressive .937 SV% and 2.40 GAA. He will be looking to achieve his first career NHL win Wednesday as he leads Columbus between the pipes.

Appleton has been dealing with an upper-body injury and was moved to IR retroactive to October 5th. The move would still allow him to be activated ahead of the Jets season opener, and was likely made in order to open up a roster spot for Axel Jonsson-Fjällby.

Arvidsson appeared in his first preseason game on Saturday and was on the ice for Monday's practice after undergoing back surgery in May. Arvidsson is expected to be in his usual spot with Phillip Danault and Trevor Moore.

Edvinsson was the No.6 overall pick in 2021 and enjoyed a solid preseason, recording one assist with 10 shots on goal in five games. Edvinsson will start the season in the AHL but will likely be the first defenseman to be called up when the Red Wings need a blueliner.

Gibson stopped 16 of 19 shots in the first period but was replaced by Anthony Stolarz for the start of the second period. The Ducks announced that Gibson was dealing with an upper-body injury. It's unclear if it was precautionary or if he's in danger of missing the season opener vs. Seattle on Wednesday.

Arvidsson is working his way back from herniated disc surgery in mid-May. The original timetable was three-to-five months, and the Kings said he's on track for the back-end of that timetable. Gabriel Vilardi and Samuel Fagemo are two candidates to replace Arvidsson on the Kings' second line to start the season.
