The Panthers have signed Aleksander Barkov to an eight-year, $80 million contract extension.

Barkov is entering the final year of a six-year, $35.4M deal and is now signed through the 2030 NHL season. The $10.0M AAV cap-hit for Barkov represents a $4.1M AAV raise for the 26-year-old. Barkov is coming off of a season in which he scored 26 goals with 32 assists (58 points) in 50 games.

Kalynuk will miss 2-to-4 weeks with a right ankle sprain.

Kalynuk appeared to be on the inside track to start the season with the Blackhawks as a third-pairing defenseman and quarterback of the second power-play unit. With Kalynuk now out for at least two weeks, Caleb Jones should be on the opening night roster.

Francouz will miss 3-to-4 weeks with a lower-body injury.

Francouz was injured in Colorado's preseason vs. the Golden Knights and will miss at least three weeks with a lower-body injury. This is a tough start to the season for Francouz, who missed all of 2021 with a lower-body injury. With Franocuz out, Jonas Johansson will likely start the year as Darcy Kuemper's backup.

Acciari (upper-body) will be out "a while."

Acciari was hurt in a scrum during Tuesday's preseason game. He was talked to the ice by Pat Maroon and appeared to hurt his left arm in some capacity. Surgery is not required but head coach Joel Quenneville said he has a long rehab ahead of him. This under opens the door for someone like Anton Lundell to start the season in the NHL.

White will have surgery on his dislocated shoulder and will miss 4-to-6 months.

White was injured in Monday's preseason game and will require surgery to repair a dislocated shoulder and will be out until at least early-February. With White out, the Senators signed Tyler Ennis to a one-year deal worth $900K to fill his spot on the roster for the start of the 2021-22 season.

The NHL and NHLPA announced today that Carey Price will be away from the team while voluntarily taking part in the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program.

According to a post by Price's wife on Instagram, Carey is taking a step back to focus on his mental health. We wish Price all the best and hope to see him back on the ice soon. While he's away, Jake Allen will become the Canadiens' No.1 netminder and Cayden Primeau/Samuel Montembeault will work behind him.

The Senators have signed Tyler Ennis to a one-year contract worth $900K.

Ennis was in Senators' training camp on a PTO and earned a one-year deal. On Thursday, the Senators also announced that Colin White will be out 4-to-6 months, which made signing Ennis a necessity. Ennis had three goals and six assists (nine points) in 30 games with the Oilers last year.

Knyzhov (undisclosed) is questionable for the start of the season.

The Sharks are hopeful that Knyzhov will be able to start skating on his own by the end of the week. Knyzhov isn't expected to be available for the preseason, putting his status for the Sharks' season opener in doubt. With Knyzhov likely out, Santeri Hatakka or Jacob Middleton could make the team out of training camp.

Capitals do not have a timetable for Backstrom's return from a hip injury.

At this time, surgery is not on the table but the Capitals are still unsure when they will get Backstrom back on the ice. With the veteran centre out, Hendrix Lapierre and Connor McMichael have been impressing in training camp and one or both of them could make the team to start the regular season.
