Mazanec made 25 saves on 27 shots in a loss to the Avalanche in his only start during his recall. He stopped 43 of 47 shots (.915 SV%) in one start and one relief appearance. With Mazanec heading back to the AHL, Pekka Rinne is expected to return on Thursday.
Nashville reassigned Marek Mazanec back to Milwaukee (AHL) this afternoon, which suggests that Rinne will likely be back in the Preds’ crease tomorrow vs. Anaheim. Rinne has missed the last eight games with a sprained knee, but monitor his status for the next 24 hours.
Lucic was not on the ice for the Bruins morning skate because he didn’t travel with the team yesterday. Lucic must be feeling better because he is on his way to the Big Apple and is expected to be in the lineup tonight. Lucic had four goals and six assists (10 points) in 12 games in January.
Fasth allowed four goals on 37 shots in the Oilers shootout win in San Jose on Monday. Fasth has won three out of his last four starts (all three via the shootout) while posting a 2.85 GAA and .905 SV%. He draws a tough matchup tonight with Sidney Crosby and the Penguins in town.
Calvert missed the last two games with an illness, but his return to practice this afternoon is a good sign that he will be available on Friday vs. St. Louis. The Blue Jackets went with seven defensemen last night, so Calvert’s return would certainly help the offence.
Rask allowed one goal on 31 shots in the Bruins win over the Kings on Saturday. Rask has gone 7-1-1 with a 1.54 GAA and .952 SV% in his last nine starts. Tonight he will get his second start of the season vs. the Rangers—he stopped all 30 shots he faced in a 3-0 shutout in their first meeting.
Anderson missed his third straight game last night and his absence from practice this afternoon suggests that Anderson will not be available for a fourth consecutive game tomorrow vs. Washington.
Lucic was listed as questionable for today’s game, but his absence from the morning skate suggests that he will not play tonight. Expect coach Julien to give us an update on Lucic’s status following the morning skate.
Skapski, 20, has gone 12-7-3 with a 2.38 GAA and .914 SV% with Hartford this season. He has been recalled to backup Cam Talbot tonight because Henrik Lundqvist is out with an upper-body injury.
Lundqvist was scheduled to start tonight vs. the Bruins tonight, but the Rangers announced this afternoon that Henrik is day-to-day with an upper-body injury. The injury is reportedly related to the puck that hit him in the throat on Monday. The Rangers will evaluate Lundqvist and more information should be released in the next 24 hours.
Talbot allowed three goals on 32 shots in the Rangers loss to the Bruins on January 15th. Lundqvist was scheduled to start but he is out with an upper-body injury. Talbot will get another shot at Boston tonight, this time at home. Talbot is 2-0-1 with a 0.78 GAA and .972 SV% at Madison Square Garden.
Pakarinen, 23, had one goal in five games with the Oilers earlier in the season. While in OKC he leads the team in goals with 17 to go along with 11 assists (28 points) in 39 games. Tonight he will skate on the Oilers second line with Derek Roy and Teddy Purcell.
Pouliot left after he was hit in the foot by a shot in Monday’s game and did not return. It looks like he will miss tonight’s game with his second foot injury of the season.
Hall re-aggravated his lower-body injury on Monday and it doesn’t look like he will be in the lineup tonight vs. the Penguins. With Hall out, Nail Yakupov has been bumped up to the Oilers top-line. Monitor Hall’s status after the skate, but it looks like he will be day-to-day again.
Potter, 31, has 10 assists in 25 games with Adirondack. He swaps places with Tyler Wotherspoon, who did not get into a game during his recall, so Potter’s chance to make his Flames debut seem slim right now.
Wotherspoon did not get into a game during his recall. He heads back to Adiriondack where he has 15 points (2G / 13A) in 39 games this season.
Schilling, 26, has yet to play for the Capitals this season, but appeared in one game in each of the last two years. He has registered two goals, 10 assists (12 points) and 33 PIMS in 41 games with Hershey.
The Jets do not have an extra forward, so Dustin Byfuglien will move back to forward with Kane out. It is being called a “coach’s decision” so it could be discipline related. Trade speculation will run ramped, but for now, all we know is “coach’s decision”.
Ryan Miller has lost three of his last four starts, so it will be Lack tonight vs. the Jets. He allowed five goals on 30 shots in a loss in Nashville on January 13th. Lack is 3-6-2 with a 2.61 GAA and .912 SV% this season, but catches a break with the Jets coming off of a tough loss in Calgary last night.
Lehtonen surrendered two goals on 40 shots in the Stars win over the Jets on Saturday. That is two straight win and four of the last six for Lehtonen, who sits with a 2.96 GAA and 905 SV% on the year. He allowed four goals on 30 shots in a loss to the Avs in their last meeting.
