Dupuis has been diagnosed with a blood clot in his lung and will be out of the lineup for at least six months while undergoing treatment with blood thinners.

The clot was identified during testing Monday, after Dupuis had complained of discomfort in his chest. “Pascal had a blood clot in his leg that traveled to his lung,” said Dr. Dharmesh Vyas, the Penguins’ team physician. "This is the second such incident that we know of for Pascal. The treatment is at least six months of blood thinners, during which time he will not be able to play hockey. Other than that, his condition is stable.” Dupuis previously was diagnosed with a blood clot in January 2014, shortly after he suffered torn ligaments in his knee. He was on blood thinners for six months while also recovering from surgery and rehabilitating his knee.

Datsyuk (groin) is not on the ice for Red Wings practice Wednesday morning.

Missing practice this afternoon does not bode well for Datsyuk’s status for Thursday’s game in Winnipeg. He continues to be hampered by a groin injury and remains day-to-day for the time being.

He has four points in 16 AHL games this season, which gives him 22 goals and 87 assists (109 points) in 163 AHL games. He is an offensive threat from the blue line that should seen second unit power-play time when he gets into the lineup for his NHL debut.

Hanzal was a late scratch for Tuesday’s game because of a lower-body injury.

“Hanzal come off [Tuesday] morning complaining he didn’t feel good,” said head coach Dave Tippett. “He went to try to warmup but said he couldn’t play.” Hanzal should be considered day-to-day until there are more details on Hanzal’s ailment.

Russell missed Tuesday’s game due to a lower-body injury.

Russell was on the ice for the Flames morning skate, but was scratched shortly before Tuesday’s win over the Ducks. He has had a great first month and a half of the season, so the Flames are hoping that this is no more than a day-to-day injury. Rapheal Diaz will play as long as Russell is out.
